Thread lift: who it suits and how long it lasts

A thread lift uses dissolvable threads placed under the skin to lift early sagging of the cheeks, jawline and neck. It suits mild sagging, not heavy loose skin.

What happens

Under local anaesthesia, thin PDO (polydioxanone) threads with tiny barbs or cones are passed under the skin through a blunt cannula. The barbs grip the tissue and the threads are pulled gently upward to lift it. Over the next 6–9 months the threads dissolve and stimulate collagen, which helps maintain some tightening.

The procedure takes 45–60 minutes. You go home the same day.

Good candidates

  • Age roughly 30 to early 50s
  • Early sagging of the cheeks, softening of the jawline, early jowls
  • Good skin quality
  • Want a lift without surgery or long downtime

Not ideal for

  • Heavy, loose skin and deep folds. A facelift gives a far better result.
  • Very thin skin, where threads may be visible
  • People wanting a permanent change

Recovery

Expect mild swelling, some tightness and occasionally small dimples where the threads enter, which settle in a week or two. Avoid wide mouth opening, dental work, massage and sleeping on your face for 2 weeks.

How long it lasts

Usually 12–18 months. Many patients repeat it, or combine it with fillers for volume and Botox for lines.

Cost in Ranchi

A thread lift with Dr. Vikrant starts at ₹30,000. The number of threads depends on the areas treated.
