Uses
- Hair: early male and female pattern hair loss, thinning after illness, and as support after hair transplant.
- Skin: dull, tired skin, fine lines, acne scars (often combined with microneedling), and under-eye darkness.
- Wounds: PRP and PRF are also used in chronic wound care, an area where Dr. Vikrant works regularly in his diabetic foot practice.
How a session works
- About 10–20 ml of blood is drawn from your arm.
- It is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich layer.
- Numbing cream is applied, then the PRP is injected into the scalp or skin with a fine needle or microneedling device.
- You go home straight after. Avoid washing hair or applying makeup for the rest of the day.
Who should avoid PRP
People with blood disorders, low platelet counts, active infection at the site, or on blood thinners need assessment first. PRP is not given during pregnancy.
Before you start
Hair loss has many causes. Before a PRP course, Dr. Vikrant checks for thyroid problems, low iron, vitamin deficiency and other treatable causes, because PRP won't fix those. Read PRP for hair loss: how many sessions.
Common questions
What is the cost of PRP for hair in Ranchi?
PRP with Dr. Vikrant starts at ₹4,000 per session. Most people need 3–6 sessions a month apart, then a maintenance session every 4–6 months. Package pricing for a full course is discussed at the consultation.
Does PRP really work for hair loss?
Clinical studies show PRP can increase hair density and thickness in androgenetic (pattern) hair loss, especially in early stages. It does not grow hair on a completely bald scalp. Results vary between people, which is why progress photos are taken at each visit.
Is PRP painful?
Numbing cream is applied first. Most people feel mild pricking. The scalp may feel tender for a day.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is prepared without an anticoagulant and at lower spin speed, so it releases growth factors more slowly. Both are used for hair and skin; Dr. Vikrant advises which suits you.
Can PRP be combined with a hair transplant?
Yes. PRP is often given during or after a hair transplant to support the existing hair around the transplanted area.
