Upper lids, lower lids or eyebrows?
Three different problems look alike in the mirror. Extra upper lid skin makes the eyes look small and hooded. A low eyebrow pushes skin down onto the lid. Puffy lower bags are fat that has moved forward. Each needs a different fix: upper blepharoplasty, a brow lift, or lower blepharoplasty. A hollow or dark ring with no bag is often better treated with under-eye filler. Dr. Vikrant checks all three at the consultation.
Who benefits
- Hooded upper lids that make eyes look smaller or tired
- Lid skin touching the eyelashes or affecting vision
- Puffy bags under the eyes that don't go with sleep
- People who already use fillers or Botox around the eyes and want a longer-lasting change
Upper blepharoplasty
A strip of extra skin, and some muscle and fat if needed, is removed from the upper lid. The cut sits in the natural fold. It is usually done under local anaesthesia and takes about an hour.
Lower blepharoplasty
Under-eye bags are fat that has pushed forward. The fat is removed or moved into the hollow below it (tear trough), and extra skin is trimmed. The cut is just below the lashes or inside the lower lid.
Recovery
- Days 1–3: swelling and bruising, managed with cold compresses and head elevation.
- Day 5–7: stitches out.
- Week 2: most bruising fades; makeup allowed.
- Month 3: final, settled appearance.
Avoid screens for long stretches in the first few days, and use the eye drops prescribed.
Check first if you have
- Dry eyes or past LASIK surgery
- Thyroid eye disease
- Glaucoma or another eye condition
- Blood thinners, uncontrolled diabetes or blood pressure
Surgery is often still possible, but these need to be checked first, sometimes with an eye specialist.

Common questions
What is the cost of blepharoplasty in Ranchi?
Eyelid surgery with Dr. Vikrant starts at ₹40,000 for both eyes. Combining upper and lower lids, or adding fat repositioning, costs more. The final figure is confirmed after examination.
Will there be a visible scar?
The upper eyelid scar sits in the natural crease and is hidden when the eyes are open. Lower lid cuts are just below the lashes or inside the eyelid. Both fade within a few months.
Can droopy eyelids affect vision?
Yes. Heavy upper lid skin can block the upper part of your field of vision. If so, the surgery is partly functional, and an eye check documenting the field loss may help with insurance.
Is it the same as a brow lift?
No. Sometimes the problem is a low eyebrow pushing skin down onto the lid. Removing lid skin alone then gives a poor result. Dr. Vikrant checks the brow position and will tell you if a brow lift is needed instead or as well.
How long does the result last?
Upper lid results typically last 10–15 years; lower lid surgery is often longer lasting. Skin keeps ageing, but you will look younger than you would have without surgery.
Can upper and lower eyelid surgery be done together?
Yes. Both can be done in one sitting, usually under local anaesthesia with sedation. Recovery time is about the same as for one, though swelling is a little more. The cost is higher than for one lid alone and is confirmed at the consultation.
Will blepharoplasty remove dark circles?
Not on its own. Lower lid surgery removes puffy bags, which reduces the shadow they cast. Dark circles from skin pigmentation, thin skin or a hollow under the eye need other treatment, such as under-eye filler for a hollow, or skin treatment for pigment. Dr. Vikrant tells you which applies to you.
