Who it helps
- Back, neck and shoulder pain from heavy breasts
- Bra straps cutting grooves into the shoulders
- Rashes and infections in the fold under the breast
- Difficulty exercising or finding clothes that fit
- One breast much larger than the other
The operation
Dr. Vikrant removes tissue from the lower part of the breast, lifts the nipple to a higher position, and reshapes the remaining tissue into a smaller, lifted breast. Depending on size, the scar goes around the areola and down to the fold (vertical or "lollipop"), with or without a horizontal scar in the fold (anchor pattern). The nipple stays attached to its blood supply.
Recovery
- Days 1–2: soreness and drains (if used).
- Week 1: stitches checked; light activity.
- Week 2: back to desk work.
- Week 6: normal bra and exercise.
- Month 6–12: scars fade and the shape settles.
Why choose Dr. Vikrant
Breast reduction is a reconstructive operation as much as a cosmetic one. Dr. Vikrant's training covers both, including oncoplastic breast surgery, where the same techniques are used after cancer treatment. Read breast reduction for back and neck pain.
Common questions
What is the cost of breast reduction surgery in Ranchi?
Breast reduction with Dr. Vikrant starts at ₹1,25,000. Very large reductions and combined procedures cost more. The quote is confirmed after examination.
Is breast reduction covered by insurance?
It may be, when heavy breasts cause documented back and neck pain, skin rashes or shoulder grooving from bra straps. Policies differ, so check yours. Dr. Vikrant can provide the clinical notes your insurer asks for.
Will I be able to breastfeed?
Many women can still breastfeed after reduction, because the nipple stays attached to the underlying tissue. The chance is lower than without surgery. If breastfeeding matters to you, say so at the consultation.
Can men have breast reduction?
Yes. In men this is called gynecomastia surgery and uses a different technique.
Can liposuction alone reduce my breasts?
In some women with mostly fatty breasts and good skin, liposuction can give a modest reduction with tiny scars. It does not lift the breast or remove skin.
What is the right age for breast reduction?
Usually once the breasts have stopped growing, which for most women is after 18. Surgery can be considered earlier when symptoms are severe. There is no upper age limit for a healthy woman.
Can the breasts grow back after a reduction?
The tissue that is removed does not grow back. The remaining breast can still enlarge with weight gain, pregnancy or hormonal change, so keeping a stable weight helps the result last.
Can I have breast reduction before marriage?
Yes. Many women have it before marriage because the pain and difficulty with clothes are daily problems. Later pregnancy and weight change can alter the shape, and the chance of breastfeeding is somewhat lower after surgery. Discuss both at the consultation.
