What liposuction can and cannot do

Liposuction takes fat out of specific areas through tiny cuts. It changes shape, not weight. The best candidates are people at or near a healthy weight who have pockets of fat that stay put despite exercise: the lower belly, love handles, inner thighs, upper arms, back, chin and, in men, the chest.

It does not tighten loose skin, remove stretch marks, treat cellulite or replace weight loss. If you have significant loose skin, Dr. Vikrant will tell you at the consultation and suggest a tummy tuck or skin excision instead.

Types of liposuction offered

Standard tumescent liposuction. Fluid containing a local anaesthetic and adrenaline is injected into the fat to reduce bleeding and pain. The fat is then removed with thin cannulas. This is the base technique for most areas.

Power-assisted liposuction. A vibrating cannula breaks up fibrous fat, which helps on the back, flanks and male chest.

HD liposuction and six-pack lipo. Fat is removed in layers and left in place over the muscle grooves, so the abdominal lines show. This suits people who are already lean and who exercise. Starts at ₹1,50,000.

360° liposuction. Abdomen, flanks and back are treated in one session to shape the whole waist rather than just the front.

How the day goes

Consultation. Dr. Vikrant examines the areas, checks skin quality and discusses what is realistic. You get a cost estimate.

Risks

Liposuction is safe in a properly equipped hospital with a trained plastic surgeon and an anaesthetist. Possible problems include uneven contour, numbness, fluid collection (seroma), infection, and rarely blood clots or fat embolism.
