Who is a good candidate

Hair transplant works for men with male pattern baldness (Norwood grades 2 to 6) who have a healthy donor area at the back of the head, and for men and women with hair loss from scars, burns or a high hairline. It works best once the pattern of loss has settled, usually after 25.

It is not the first step for hair loss caused by thyroid problems, iron deficiency, recent illness or stress. These need diagnosis and treatment first, because the hair often returns on its own.

FUE: how it is done

  1. Planning. The hairline is drawn with you in front of a mirror. Dr. Vikrant aims for a hairline that suits your age, so it still looks right at 50.
  2. Extraction. Under local anaesthesia, individual follicular units of 1–4 hairs are taken from the back and sides with a 0.8–1 mm punch. The donor area heals as tiny dots that are hidden once hair grows to a few millimetres.
  3. Implantation. Small slits are made in the thinning area at the natural angle and direction of hair growth. The grafts are placed one by one.
  4. Going home. You leave the same day with a bandage on the back of the head.

How many grafts you need

Area Typical grafts Approximate cost at ₹30 per graft
Hairline only 800–1,200 ₹24,000–₹36,000
Frontal area (Norwood 3) 1,500–2,500 ₹45,000–₹75,000
Front and crown (Norwood 4–5) 2,500–3,500 ₹75,000–₹1,05,000
Beard or moustache 500–1,500 ₹15,000–₹45,000
Eyebrows (both) 300–600 ₹9,000–₹18,000

The donor area can only give a limited number of grafts over a lifetime. Dr. Vikrant plans the first session so there are grafts left if you need a second one later.

Recovery

  • Days 1–3: some swelling of the forehead is common. Sleep with the head raised.
  • Day 3 onwards: gentle washing as instructed. Small crusts fall off by day 10.
  • Week 2: back to the gym and helmet use.
  • Weeks 2–6: the transplanted hairs shed (shock loss). The roots stay.
  • Months 3–12: new hair grows, thickens and settles.

Common questions

What is the cost of a hair transplant in Ranchi?

Dr. Vikrant charges ₹30 per graft. A typical frontal hairline of 1,500–2,500 grafts costs about ₹45,000–₹75,000. The number of grafts you need is fixed at the consultation after measuring the bald area and checking the donor density, so you know the total before the day.

Who does the best hair transplant in Ranchi?

A good hair transplant depends on graft survival, a natural hairline design and careful use of the donor area, which cannot be replaced. Choose a surgeon who designs the hairline and takes part in the procedure, not one who leaves it entirely to technicians. Dr. Vikrant Ranjan is an MCh plastic surgeon trained in aesthetic surgery and does hair transplants himself in Ranchi.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

The transplanted follicles come from the back and sides of the scalp, which are genetically resistant to male pattern baldness. They keep growing for life. Your existing, non-transplanted hair can still thin, so many men also use medicines or PRP to protect it.

Does a hair transplant hurt?

Only the local anaesthetic injections are felt, for a few minutes. After that the scalp is numb. Most patients watch videos or sleep during the session. Mild soreness for 2–3 days is controlled with tablets.

When will I see results?

The transplanted hairs shed at 2–4 weeks. This is expected. New growth starts at 3–4 months, looks good at 6 months and reaches the final result at 10–12 months.

Can women get a hair transplant?

Yes, if the hair loss is in a defined area with a stable donor zone, such as a high hairline, thinning at the parting, or hair loss after a scar or burn. Diffuse thinning in women usually needs blood tests and medical treatment first.

Do you do beard and eyebrow transplants?

Yes. Beard, moustache and eyebrow transplants use the same FUE method with fewer grafts, usually 300–1,500 depending on the area.
