What rhinoplasty can change
- A hump on the bridge
- A wide, bulbous or drooping tip
- Wide nostrils
- A crooked or twisted nose, often after an injury
- A flat or low bridge (built up with cartilage)
- Breathing blockage from a deviated septum
Open vs closed rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty is done entirely through cuts inside the nostrils. There is no outside scar and swelling settles faster. It suits smaller changes, mainly to the bridge.
Open rhinoplasty adds a small cut across the skin strip between the nostrils (the columella). This lets the surgeon see the tip cartilages directly, which is needed for most tip work and for crooked or revision noses. The scar is a few millimetres long and fades well.
Dr. Vikrant chooses the approach after examining the nose, and tells you which one he plans and why.
Before surgery
You will be asked about breathing, past injuries, allergies and earlier nose surgery. Photographs are taken from standard angles. Stop smoking and blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin unless prescribed) 2 weeks before.
Recovery
- Day 1: packs (if used) removed. Swelling around the eyes peaks on day 2–3.
- Day 7: external splint and stitches removed. Most people return to work.
- Weeks 2–3: bruising is gone. Avoid spectacles resting on the bridge for 4–6 weeks.
- Month 3: most swelling has settled.
- Month 12: the tip reaches its final shape.
Risks
Bleeding, infection, asymmetry and breathing changes are uncommon. The most common reason for a second operation is a small irregularity that shows after swelling settles, which is why Dr. Vikrant waits a full year before judging the result.

Common questions
What is the cost of rhinoplasty in Ranchi?
Rhinoplasty with Dr. Vikrant starts at ₹1,25,000. Revision surgery, rib or ear cartilage grafts, and combined septoplasty for breathing can change the price. The figure is confirmed after examination.
Who is the best rhinoplasty surgeon in Ranchi?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most technical operations in plastic surgery, because millimetres matter and the result has to work for breathing as well as looks. Choose an MCh or DNB plastic surgeon who shows you a plan, discusses what the nose can and cannot become, and checks your breathing. Dr. Vikrant Ranjan is an MCh plastic surgeon who does rhinoplasty in Ranchi.
Will my nose look natural?
The aim is a nose that fits your face, not a standard shape. At the consultation Dr. Vikrant looks at your forehead, eyes, cheeks and chin, and explains which changes will keep the nose in balance with them.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
Most patients describe it as a blocked, heavy nose rather than pain. Packs, if used, come out the next day. Tablets are enough for pain control.
Can rhinoplasty fix breathing problems?
Yes. A bent septum or narrow nasal valves can be corrected in the same operation (septorhinoplasty). Functional surgery for breathing may be covered by insurance; the cosmetic part usually isn't.
What is the right age for rhinoplasty?
Usually after 17 in girls and 18 in boys, once nasal growth has finished. Breathing or injury-related surgery may be done earlier.
